Medditerranean Sea, Spain
17 latex balloons, each 6 feet in diamter, weighted down with sand buckets

a skecth for my idea

a salesman from the balloon company made a house visit to show me how big the balloons could get.

on the morning of the installation, we woke up at 5AM.

one by one, we towed out the balloons to thier anchors using a surf board.

see video of the installation here

it doesn't look like it but the water was freezing cold and very rough. i took the next 7 pictures with a disposable waterproof camera from the surfboard.

then, one by one the balloons started popping. the sun was getting hot and perhaps the air inside them was expanding. it took 5 people and all our strength to haul them in. the piece lasted for all of 6 hours.
